A Few of My Favorite Things

I am endlessly fascinated by things people use to make their lives easier or even what helps disguise dark under eye circles. I get loads of questions about the products and items around our home so I thought I would share some of my recent finds. This is all over the place, but hopefully you find something in here helpful for you and your family!

1. Self Tanner

I love a little “summer” glow but I also love not having sun damage. I wear so much sunscreen there is no hope of me ever having an actual tan. This is one of my favorites and it’s incredibly forgiving if you aren’t exact.

You guys know I love some pajamas. These are a staple for me this summer. The shorts are a bit short, but they work on my 5’4” frame. Reviews say that the sizes run small, so size up if you are unsure. There are also very cute prints like flamingos or strawberries if you need to jazz it up. It’s a step up from sleeping in your husband’s old t-shirts for sure.

I’m obsessed with these earrings from theflourishmarket.com They are super light and match just about everything. If that isn’t enough, you’ll love the story behind them.

This jewelry collection is made by artisans at the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in Northern India.  The artisan women find new meaning through their work. They were once marginalized because of their gender and poverty and now find passion in their art and hope for their future.

You’ll love everything about this shop, where everything serves a bigger purpose. The owner, Em Sexton, sources items that are made by, or benefit women.  They partner with brands and creators all over the world, providing dignified jobs and fair wages in vulnerable communities.

We have several cloth masks with filters for each kid but we noticed we were falling behind on washing them. I wanted a disposable option that actually fit my son’s smaller face for times we didn’t have a clean, cloth mask.  I ordered two boxes of these: One I keep by the door of our house and one in the glove compartment of our car.

There are two reasons I don’t use AirPods: 1) I would lose them in 7 seconds. 2) I am cautious about hearing loss. Call me crazy, but I resist using earbuds or any other device that goes INTO your ear. I was told once about something called noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), and how earbuds may contribute if the volume is too high. Is it true? Not sure, but I use these on the Peloton or when I’m out for a run.

I’ve shared this before, but it’s worth sharing again. Tarte Shape Tape concealer hides the years of fatigue and genetic predisposition to dark under eye circles. I can’t get enough of this stuff. It really works wonders.

7. Chafing Ointment

A sweet viewer sent us a package of this stuff. (Apologies to this kind person. In a fit of  recycling, my husband broke down the box with your contact information.) TMI, but recently we went straight from the pool on a hike on a nearby trail. Wet bathing suits + lots of activity = some family chafing. We’re loading this into the bag before future beach trips, for sure.

8. Mosquito Lantern

A bright spot in this COVID crisis has been time outside with my family. We wrote about our backyard setup up but now that summer is in full swing, the mosquitoes are out to party. We hesitate to spray harsh chemicals where our kids and dog play, so we bought a few of these lanterns and they have done the trick. I feel better about this more natural option, but they don’t last forever.  In fact, I  just reordered the repellant mats and fuel cartridges.

9. Super Comfy Quarantine Queen shirt

This has become my new uniform. It’s light enough to wear for a run and comfortable enough for the hours (and hours) we’re spending at home. We are loading new items into our shop all the time!

10. Penn’s Weird Yet Bizarrely Comfortable Shoes

My husband is NOT a shopper. He doesn’t care what he’s wearing as long as it’s comfortable. So imagine my surprise when he ordered these suckers and has professed true, undying love for them. His obsession with these shoes is bordering on inappropriate. They look like crocs that have been through tough times, but my husband doesn’t care.
