Gift Ideas For Your Reading Obsessed Friend (Who Will Be Impressed You Knew About These Books)

I love reading, but I know that I’m not always up-to-date on the latest and greatest. I brought in my book-obsessed producer to list out 14 books that have made a big splash this year or will soon be at every book club in 2025. From memoirs to popular fiction to murder mystery, we probably have a book here that will make your reading-obsessed friend very happy (and extremely impressed!)

My Name is Barbra by Barbara Streisand

Barbra Streisand is a cultural and musical icon for the ages. If you have a friend who loves a curated collection, this 992-page mammoth should do the trick.

Be Ready When the Luck Happens by Ina Garten

If you haven’t seen this viral clip of Martha Stewart commenting on Ina’s memoir, watch it and then go grab the book so you can decide for yourself which side you are on.

Intermezzo by Sally Rooney

Sally Rooney made her name with her book (and subsequent show) Normal People, but her latest novel is said to be her best yet. The beautiful cover doesn’t hurt either.

Playground by Richard Powers

Powers leaves the world of trees he beautifully explored in The Overstory and dives into the deep blue ocean to talk about exploration, nature, and oddly, technology.

Godwin by Joseph O’Neill

If you have a friend who is struggling with the loss of Ted Lasso, give them this book about a soccer agent who thinks he’s found the next Lionel Messi.

Colored Television by Danzy Senna

If you have a friend who always knows what’s going on in Hollywood and what the next It show will be, this is the book for them.

All Fours by Miranda July

30 minutes after leaving her husband and kid for a road trip from LA to NY, she exits the freeway and checks into a motel. If that sentence doesn’t entice you… give it to someone who does!

Table for Two by Amor Towles

While known for A Gentleman in Moscow, this collection of short stories is bound to be a Towles heavy hitter for years to come.

The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley

What actually happens if time travel is real? And what if a guy from the 1800s is your new roommate?

The Husbands by Holly Gramazio

A woman has just realized that her attic is creating an infinite supply of husbands. It’s not the joy ride you think it might be.

The Backyard Bird Chronicles by Amy Tan

Amy Tan won me over years ago with Joy Luck Club, so it was wonderful to see she’s also a birder who has decided to combine her hobby and magical way with words.

Why We Remember by Charan Ranganath

Brain health is something Penn and I find extremely important so I’m excited to pick up this book on the powerful role of memory in our life.

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman

While this might be the least serious book on the list, I’m making a prediction now that it will be on a lot of people’s “To Read” list in 2025.

ADHD Is Awesome by Penn and Kim Holderness

Okay you know we can’t do a book list without shouting out our own book. Of course, we are super proud of it but the 5-star reviews and New York Times bestseller list tells me it’s pretty good too. If you have or love someone with ADHD, this is a really digestable, fun read filled with useful tips of thriving with ADHD.

Page Turner for Kindle

No this isn’t a book but if your reading-obsessed friend is a Kindle girlie, she’s going to want this page turner for her Kindle. Pair it with this gooseneck holder for the ultimate reading-in-bed experience.
