We love our podcast. Sometimes, when we hit the record button it feels like I’m in a confessional. I’ll start spilling details of my life without even thinking. On this week’s podcast, what started as a conversation about being taken out of context in a national magazine on the topic of binge-drinking, ended up in a discussion about my mental health.
I recently went back to therapy. Penn says has already seen a difference in me. (I can feel it too.) I’m a big fan of therapy and have been in and out of it, for whatever reason, my entire adult life. I hadn’t been in a couple of years, and because I feel like I’ve been white-knuckling life lately, I knew it was time to go back. I’m glad I did. Doing the work (plus being encouraged by my doctor to go on a medicine to manage my anxiety) has made the world a little brighter and easier for me to navigate. It goes without saying that therapy and medication are very personal decisions for anyone who chooses to go that route-–I just want to be transparent and set an example for my kids so that they’re aware of the resources available to them.
There’s much more nuance to this conversation and we hope you’ll listen.
Looking For A Hobby
The podcast took a fun turn when we shifted focus to my hobby. (My hobby is … LOOKING FOR A HOBBY.) Many of you who have followed us for a while know that I’ve been talking about getting a hobby for YEARS. My hobby is talking about getting a hobby. I have always encouraged my children to go and try out different things even if they’re not sure they’ll be good at it. Meanwhile, your girl here does NOT practice what she preaches.
Maybe it’s my competitiveness. I hate being bad at something, thus at times avoiding trying a new skill altogether. Well, here we are again. I’m determined to find SOMETHING that will fulfill that hobby void. So, I asked all of you…and friends, did you ever deliver with some unique ideas. From photography to composting to beekeeping…there were so many great and different suggestions, so thank you.
On this week’s podcast we react to some of those suggestions, discuss why hobbies are a good idea, and maybe finally land on something for me to try (and stick with.) And I see you and your black belt Christina from San Antonio… but Mixed Martial Arts scares the bejeezus out of me.
Tell us, what are some of your favorite hobbies? Comment below and happy listening.
