Hello there, my accountabila-buddies.
Recently we had a podcast all about how I want to spend the next year of my life. I turn 50 next year and I want to show up stronger, kinder, and have a little fun on the way. I talked specifically about 5 goals I want to tackle and I promised a regular report on my progress. I’m really motivated to make progress on this list but I may have put too much on my plate (Me? NEVER!).
So here are my 5 specific goals and how I’m doing:
1. Do an unassisted pull-up and lower my cardiovascular age:
Week one report: I haven’t done a single thing to help my attempts at a pull-up. I was traveling. I could have done pushups or found my way to the hotel gyms – but I didn’t.
So this is my progress so far. I’ve got a long road ahead.
BUT, I have been walking a ton, and already my cardiovascular age on my Oura ring app is sliding down!
2. Walk 1825 miles in a year:
Week one report: This mileage works out to be about 10,000 steps a day. Setting this goal has made me circle the block a few times after dinner just to hit the number. Some days I get more, some days I get less but I have a mental calculation of the week and it’s going really well. As I write this, it’s 5pm and it’s pouring down rain. I’ve walked a grand total of 3,181 steps today. I’ll do some laps around my house but I’m not going to stress. I’ll just walk more for the rest of the week.
3. Commit to 50 Acts of Kindness:
I have zero structure around this but I have loved waking up every day looking for a way to help. Recently, my son and I spent two days at a theme park. I made it my mission to get moms in the picture. Anytime I saw a mom taking a picture of her family, I walked up and asked, “Do you want me to take a picture so you can be in it?” I took pictures for 23 moms!
In return, so many moms offered to take pictures of me and my boy:
4. Read 50 books:
Okay, I’m cheating a little. I’m counting the books I’ve read since January. I’ve already read 12 books this year but I’m chugging along. Have any good recs? Leave them in the comments, please.
5. Say yes and go when invited:
My happy place is my couch. If it were not for my family I would probably never go outside. I did leave the comfort of my couch to play Mahjong! (I’m learning and very much a beginner).
Thanks for coming along with this journey. I’ll take all the advice and recommendations.
Love you. Mean it.
