This past month, I turned 50 years old. It’s a number that I feel like I am at times, and at others, I definitely do not. There’s a lot of things that I don’t really care about as much as I did before I turned 50. I used to care more about what people thought about me. I used to care about being the first one to hit the newest restaurant in town. I used to care about going to rock concerts.
By the way, do they even call them “rock concerts” anymore? Probably not.
4 Things I Care About More
Even though there are things I am crabby about at 50, there are things that are great about this age! On this week’s podcast, I share a bunch of lists with Kim about turning 50. One of those lists? The things I care about even more than I did before. At 50, I care more about…
#1 Sleep & Quiet Time
Kim has been a thought leader on this for years. I don’t have trouble sleeping, but I am more attracted to quiet time in my older years. I am still an extrovert and I love getting my energy from other people. As time goes on though, I find I can also get energy from having some rest.
#2 The World Around Me
Now that I am 50, it means more to me to have an understanding of people who aren’t like me. Over the past couple years, I’ve been curious about what life is like for different communities and in different countries. The perspective of how other people live and what they think has been something I want to learn more about.
#3 Sidewalks
I promise I watch the road, but now that I cannot see as well at night I feel better with sidewalks. (My eye doctor just gave me “night contacts” for crying out loud.) My biggest fear is that someone will be walking on the street and I will almost hit them. I have become very pro-sidewalk.
#4 A Clean Car
A clean car means more to me than it did a few years ago. I think I have finally spent enough time driving my kids around that something has clicked with me. I even took my car to get detailed before I would usually do it as a “preventative measure” – who am I?
Let’s Have A Pennventure!
It was so nice to hear from my friends and family near and far on my big half-century birthday. I especially love a good roast from my friends to celebrate big milestones. To end this week’s podcast, we hear from Taylor Calmus of Dude Dad, Myles Montplaisir of You Betcha, comedian Charlie Berens, and members of our team: Ann Marie, Sam, and Desmond. Be prepared to learn what a Pennventure is as well as what Strech Armstrong and karaoke machines have to do with Penn’s day of birth.
Happy listening!
