We’re Going All In

Historically, around the second week in January, I have a freakout. This has gotten so predictable that I had to get my 2025 calendar early so I could write the words “don’t freak out” right around now. See, we’ve been very fortunate in our work and personal lives. My panic stems from anticipation about the year and waiting for the other shoe to drop…If we had a good year, I would think “It can’t always be good, can it?” If we had a challenging year, I would think “Is it going to get worse?”

This is called catastrophizing and it doesn’t help anyone. So instead of worrying about the future of the year, we decided to start 2025 by looking back on the past.

Worrying Less, Adding More

On this week’s podcast, we revisited some of the resolutions and thoughts we had going into 2024 to see how we netted out. One big resolution for me last year was “worrying less by adding more.” At first, I was puzzled by my own words. Did that even make sense? Luckily Penn was able to help add some context to what I had meant.

Turns out my theory was that if I was busy doing things, I wouldn’t have time to worry. By adding more to my life, I could actually worry less. And I have to say, I do feel like I accomplished that. I said yes to more things and got out of the house. Along with getting on some medication for anxiety, I did worry less.

Giving It My Whole Ass

In 2025, my resolution is to go “all in” – I want to go all in on work, all in on rest, and all in on friendship. That means I am not going to go half-ass on anything, if I cannot put my whole ass into whatever it is that I want to accomplish I am not doing it. Last year, I said I wanted to add more and I did. This year, I want to do more of what matters and give my whole commitment to it when I do.

Hear us talk more about goal setting, Penn coming up with our recent parody from Wicked, and tell us what resolutions you have this year!
