If you’ve read my book ADHD Is Awesome, you probably figured out I’m a big word games guy. Yes, I do Wordle every day. Yes, I have a New York Times subscription purely for the daily crossword. But what about Duotrigordle? Never heard of it? That’s THIRTY-TWO Wordles at the same time. And you only have 37 guesses to get them all right.
So if you’ve ever sat and thought, “Hmm I wonder what Penn Holderness gets up to on Friday Night,” I’m racing my son to finish Duotrigordle first. Probably didn’t guess that one, huh? Anyways, here are 18 more online word games that are updated daily for all to enjoy.
Word-Based Games
1. Strands – If you are already a Wordle fan, you probably already know about all the New York Times games, including Connections, Spelling Bee, and the mini crossword. But have you seen their latest word game? Strands is a wordfind on steroids. You have to zig and zag through the grid to find 8 specific words, with only one clue (the title) about what they have in common. Hints are used for beginners (like me) to help along the way.
2. Crossclimb – Never in my life did I think LinkedIn would be the place to play fun word games…but alas. LinkedIn Games currently has 3 options: Pinpoint (guessing the category before you get to the 5th clue), Queens (a Sudoku-style game of colors and crowns), and Crossclimb. Crossclimb is my pick as the winner, because of its part-trivia, part-Wordle ladder layout.
3. The Letter Loop – it is exactly that. An eight-letter loop. Complete the loop by finding the 2 five-letter words that start and end with the same letter. Believe me, this one is deceptively hard.
4. Waffle – There’s no better pairing with breakfast. Six Wordles at the same time in the shape of a waffle. Enjoy with or without syrup.
5. Circuits – Fill in the boxes to find connections between adjacent words. The retro art on this one is pretty cool too.
6. Orbits – Similar to Circuits above, Orbits is about finding how the 8 words can be put in order to create a complete loop. Warning- it’s unforgiving- you get any one wrong and you have to wait til tomorrow, so start by using “drag and drop” mode
7. Betweenle – Instead of finding out which letters are in the word like Wordle, find out where the word lies in the alphabet. I really like this one. It challenges your vocabulary and your math brain.
8. Contexto – Find the secret word. You have unlimited guesses. Your guesses tell you how close you are to the secret word.
Trivia-Based Games
9. Factle – While laid out in the same way as Wordle, this trivia game is all about putting things in the right order. For instance, today’s puzzle was to rank the top 5 largest American companies by market cap, with 23 very popular companies to choose from.
10. Top 5 – This game is extremely similar to Factle but you don’t get options to choose from! Hope you know your trivia because you only get 5 lives.
11. Framed – Can you guess the movie from just the stills? You get 6 guesses, with each still becoming more obvious.
12. Moviedle – Can you guess the movie by only watching one second of it?
13. Worldle – Guess the country based on its shape.
14. Spotle – You have 10 guesses to figure out the artist/band of the day. Your hints are debut year, number of members, gender, genre, country of origin, and popularity.
15. Bandle – Think you have an ear for music? In that case, try to figure out the song first with only the drum beat, then the bass, and finally 3 more layers if you still need help.
Unbelievable Nerdy
16. Nerdle – It’s hard to put a name on this category because we have finally reached the ultimate peak of nerdiness. Nerdle is Wordle for math. Yes, it’s real.
17. Murdle – Solve the whodunit using logic-based clues.
18. Minute Cryptic – If you love the harder days on crossword puzzles, you’ll love this one-off wordplay test.
If you are someone who read this all the way through, then you would probably love our card game, What The Flock. It’s chock full of word games and has the coolest bird art. My team and I made it based on our love of games like Wordle and the daily crossword.
