As with any podcast, we invite you to join us on our journey to be better. We are all passengers in this crazy life and we are all just trying to do our best (most of the time). Today, we are tackling the tough subject of criticism. Giving and receiving criticism in relationships (personal or professional), isn’t always easy. In fact, it is usually a huge challenge. It’s hard to admit when you’re wrong, and it’s difficult to tell others when they could have done better.
We share a couple personal stories on this podcast episode. One specific story was an example of criticism given and received poorly in our marriage. Our “fail” example may have ended with me exiting a car and walking home. We’ve all been there, right? While it may not always be fun to rehash drama, sometimes looking back helps you to move forward.
We also discussed different types of criticism, because feedback can come in many forms. Sometimes it is downright rude and sometimes it is more passive aggressive. We’ve learned for work relationships, it really does save time to give feedback up front.
Last, but sadly never least, we discuss social media criticism. Our world is becoming increasingly critical. Sports to news, we have become more argumentative as a society. One kindly given piece of criticism we received recently on social media suggested we come across ageist. Penn got a little sweaty over this one, so we took an online age discrimation quiz, which you know HAD to be legit. However, we may have dug ourselves into a deeper hole. You decide.
